SYSTEM TECHNOLOGIES

THE SITUATION

Serving predominantly the offshore and underwater industry sectors, System Technologies designs and manufactures electronic control systems and sensors, in use all over the world. The company's equipment frequently has to operate in ultra-hostile environments involving extreme temperatures and water pressures - and high repair costs. Component quality and reliability are therefore placed higher than price in selection priority. The company's previous cable supplier had found it increasingly difficult to meet System Technologies' demanding specifications.

THE SOLUTION

Elmeridge was appointed to provide 6mm cables for data and power transmission between sonar sensors and computerised control boxes in remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) on the sea bed. Diameter tolerances are critical in connecting such equipment which can be required to operate as deep as 7,000 metres below the sea surface. System Technologies' Production Engineering Manager worked with an Elmeridge director to produce and agree the specification for the task.

THE RESULT

The polyurethane jacket cable supplied by Elmeridge proved flexible and durable for deep-sea ROV work. In a sector where Systems Technologies must design and build to a high specification with every single project, cable supply has been able to match this standard. "Elmeridge understand what we need to achieve so that I am confident about the reliability of their cables," comments the Production Engineering Manager.
